This Design-Based Research Project began in January 2021, with the primary goal of examining and (re)writing the history of Mat-koo-la-hoo-ee, that is present-day La Jolla, California, from the Kumeyaay perspective. Bringing together a team of Kumeyaay community scholars, we will examine the spatial and temporal history and cultural significance of Mat-koo-la-hoo-ee. Secondary to this, the team will design a UCSD community-engaged service-learning course on the history of the land UC San Diego currently occupies.
