Indigi-Con

Self-described “comic book nerds,” Chag Lowry and Katie Walkiewicz started dreaming up ideas for an Indigenous comic book convention in fall 2022, long before either of them stepped into the roles of Executive Director or Faculty Director at IFI. In July 2025, they held the inaugural Indigi-Con at Park & Market in downtown San Diego. Indigi-Con celebrates versatile ways Indigenous creators are using sequential art and pop culture to celebrate and uplift Indigenous storytelling.

This first con was made possible through a close partnership with the Eyaay Ahuun Foundation and by an Engaging Humanities Grant from the UC Humanities Research Institute.
